The International
Institute of Weddings requires that the conduct and practices of its
members is consistent with our prescribed standards for reputable
business behavior. Commitment to these principles is implicit to
membership and is essential to (a) establishing and maintaining
higher levels of consumer confidence for bridal consumers, and to (b)
the advancement and elevation of the wedding profession and the
industry as a whole. A commitment to fair and equitable business
practices, to ethical and reputable conduct, and to building and
maintaining professional relationships with colleagues in the
industry is at the core of advancing the respectability of this
rapidly growing field of professionals. As responsible and reputable
wedding professionals, it is incumbent upon us to remember that we
are entrusted with performing a role in the single most important day
of a couple's life, and it is critical that we understand and
appreciate the magnitude of that obligation. Every member of The
International Institute of Weddings will ensure that his or her
professional conduct is consistent with our goal to advance the
public perception of the industry throughout the world. The conduct
of each individual member directly impacts this result.
To obtain and
maintain membership with the International Institute of Weddings,
Members agree to:
Avoid any business activities which could be construed as a conflict
of interest or as being motivated by personal gain, as opposed to
always putting the best interests of the client first.
Strive to achieve the highest levels of clarity, completeness,
accuracy, and mutual understanding in all written contracts and agreements.
Strive to achieve the highest levels of clarity and mutual
understanding in all client dealings through complete, accurate and
timely communications.
Respect the legal and contractual rights of clients and colleagues.
Honor all written and oral contracts.
Respect and ensure the privacy rights of clients and colleagues.
Protect the confidentiality of privileged information received
verbally, in writing, electronically, or by other means.
Refrain from misusing any information, proposals or concepts which
have been provided to you, with the exception of the purposes for
which they were intended.
Pursue educational growth and professional development through
training, sharing of knowledge, expertise and skills, to advance the
stature of the wedding industry.
Embrace and foster a business climate of respect for all peoples
regardless of national origin, race, religion, sex, marital status,
age, sexual orientation, physical or mental impairment.
Deal with every client with truthfulness and fairness all times.
Provide all services as agreed in a timely fashion.
Carry one's self with dignity, decorum, and courtesy at all times
when conducting business, showing professionalism and respect at all
times for the other party.
Make no misrepresentations to clients, either verbally or in advertisements.
Conduct business in a manner which is a credit to the Association,
the wedding industry, and the community.
Respond promptly to any and all complaints received by clients or
forwarded by the Association, and seek a reasonable and satisfactory
resolution to any disputes.
Abide by all by-laws and licensing requirements for conducting
business within one's local area.
Respect the Association's name and logo, using it only as authorized
by the Association.
Pay all association fees in a timely fashion.
Adherence to
these Standards of Professional Conduct signifies professionalism,
competence, ethics, and high integrity. Failure to abide by these
principles may result in the loss of membership status with the
